Top Off Your Clean Property with a Clean Car

Homeowners want the exterior of their homes to look the best as possible. Houses with clean roofs, siding, driveways, patios and windows are a source of pride for the owners.

Your house and property will practically shine after a power wash by Lakeshore Exterior Cleaning. The cleansing will remove grime, slime, tree droppings, bird droppings, oil stains, tire tracks, snow salt and any of Mother Nature’s offerings that you didn’t ask for, such as pollen.

The sight of a beautifully tended home and its property can be spoiled by a dirty car in the driveway. Here are some washing tips to keep it looking spic ’n’ span.

Start off the job by using a wash mitt instead of something such as a rag or old washcloth. Then, lots of people think that adding a few squirts of clothing detergent or dishwashing liquid to a bucket of water is the best cleaning liquid to use when performing a do-it-yourself car wash. Yes, they are good at removing grease, dirt and old wax, but they also suck significant oils right out of the paint's finish. But know that using clothing detergent or dishwashing liquid repeatedly will shorten the life of your paint job.

Instead, use a cleaner formulated for vehicles; you’ll find them available at any auto parts store. Once you've mixed the suds, fill a second bucket with clean rinse water. Use it to rinse the wash mitt often, which will remove most of the road grit from the mitt and prevent scratches from rough particles it may have picked up.

Washing removes the surface dirt, but clay-barring is the only way to pluck out the embedded stuff. Buy a clay bar kit, which includes a lubricating spray and several pieces of synthetic clay. Prepare the clay by tearing a piece into four sections. Flatten one section into a small pancake in the palm of your hand and rub it over the paint with a back-and-forth motion. Fold the clay against itself, knead it and re-flatten until the clay turns gray. Then toss it and use a fresh piece until you remove the "darts" and get a glass-like finish.
